Te Taitokerau Climate Adaptation Strategy

Our climate is changing. More frequent flooding, droughts and coastal erosion are already a reality, posing serious risks to biodiversity and ecosystems, roading access and water resilience. Te Taitokerau needs to adapt, to keep our environment, people and economy strong.

Te Taitokerau Climate Adaptation Strategy is a partnership between all four Northland councils and tāngata whenua representatives. Since 2019, we’ve been working together to develop an adaptation plan that will protect our people, places and cultural identity.

A big step in that process is agreeing on a strategy that will guide our mahi and how we work together. The Te Taitokerau Climate Adaptation Strategy was adopted by councils and tangata whenua representatives in April 2022. Currently we’re developing an identity for the CATT rōpū, through a collaborative process with our Tiriti partners and communities.

There’s a lot of work to do. But by sharing knowledge and staying connected, we can create a more climate-resilient Te Taitokerau.
